It’s Just a Little Poison

I bought some ant poison a week ago (or was it two weeks?) to combat the hungry little beasts that wanted to take over my store.  I have thought about the contents of rat poison before, but since I have ant poison I took a look at the contents.  One that I bought is a gallon of spray (can you say “water”?) with just .03% of the active poison in it.  You’d think that it would not be such a big deal, hey it’s less than one percent.  Ask the ants if it’s a big deal.  Ants that were alive die because of just a little poison.

So I contemplated the ravening wolves that Jesus talked about in Matthew 7:15, wolves disguised as sheep.  They would have to be subtle, appear harmless, perhaps even truly mean well, but misguided.  I had already decided from my interrupted study on the Holy Spirit that it can be people who actually operate with gifts, just without the true love of God flowing through them.  The fruit will eventually show up, be it bad or good.

In my search for the term “wolves” I came across an interesting passage in Acts, where Paul warned some true disciples:

“Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.” Acts 20:28-32

Wolves kill.  They are very good at it.  True servants of God were warned about wolves.  It is a warning that we must take seriously today, for wolves go after sheep.

The Bereans were commended for searching the scriptures daily to make sure things were preached correctly:

“And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:10-11

How many people pick up a Bible at all during the week?  Some do of course, but many don’t.  They simply accept what is preached to them as truth.  Or prophesied for that matter, Jeremiah has quite a few instances where God says that he didn’t send prophets, yet they prophesied anyway.  They prophesied nice things, but the Lord did not send them.

There are many today that God has not sent, many who fill itching ears with false teachings.

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.” Second Peter 2:1-2

Be very, very careful who you listen to.  It can cost you your soul.  Jesus said “Behold, I have told you before.” in Matthew 24:25, about false prophets, false Christs, signs and wonders…
