Where Doth Thy Finger
Point?
I find it amazing as I read different things, how people like to make it out as if some other party is the real problem when it comes to certain subjects. Most fingers point outward, and rarely inward, back at ourselves. I want to give you one good example of how this happens. We read in Revelation about the Great Whore, an amazing picture of badness. Many agree that it is something religious, such as a religious organization.
Multiple people (Protestants) have read the passage and pointed their finger at the Catholic Church. Let’s take a look at some of the passages.
“1: And there came one of the
seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me,
Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth
upon many waters:
2: With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the
inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3: So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a
woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having
seven heads and ten horns.
4: And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked
with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full
of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5: And upon her forehead was a
name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND
ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6: And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with
the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great
admiration.” Revelation 17:1-6 KJV
“And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.” Revelation 17:9 KJV
“And the woman which thou sawest is
that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.” Revelation
They give
assorted evidence for this belief. The
colors of those high up in the Catholic Church are purple and scarlet, good
match. There have been many martyrs at
their hands, good match. The
Do I believe this is the identity of the great whore? Not for certain, and really it doesn’t matter that much to me either way, you’ll see why in a moment.
The point however is in verse 5 of chapter 17. If it is indeed the Catholic Church, then her daughters are harlots. Who are the daughters of the Catholic Church?
That would be all the Protestant denominations. Oops.

And suddenly fingers are pointing back at us, we find ourselves guilty as well. If she is the Great Whore, then we are little harlots. Not exactly an uplifting thought is it?
