An Example to Us
“1:
Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our
fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2: And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3: And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4: And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that
spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5: But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were
overthrown in the wilderness.
6: Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust
after evil things, as they also lusted.
7: Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The
people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8: Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and
fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9: Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were
destroyed of serpents.
10: Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed
of the destroyer.
11: Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are
written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12: Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
13: There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but
God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able;
but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to
bear it.
14: Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
15: I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.” First Corinthians
10:1-15
Verses 6 and 11 show that the things that happened to
Now in verses 2-4 we see that all of them had the same things, baptism, spiritual meat, and spiritual drink, yet in verse 5 we see that many were overthrown (killed) in the wilderness.
Even ES advocates will admit that God may kill people who are sinning against Him, but there’s a little point in the Old Testament that cannot be ignored:
“29: For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD, even every man
upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this
day.
30: And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the
LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.
31: And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh,
this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.
32: Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin -- ;
and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
33: And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him
will I blot out of my book.
34: Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have
spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the
day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.
35: And the LORD plagued the people, because they made the calf, which
Aaron made.” Exodus 32:29-35 KJV
Now it does not specifically say that it is the Book of Life, but the context certainly suggests that it is. God did NOT say that He would bring home the ones who sinned against Him; He said they would be blotted out of His book. Sin unto death takes on a whole new meaning when you think in terms of blotting out!
These were God’s people that He was talking about, not the rest of the world. We too are given a “blot” warning; lest you say that it only counted in the OT:
“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” Revelation 3:5 KJV
Heavy? Oh yeah. Nice?
Not a bit. Truth? It’s in the Bible. Acceptable in the sight of
“Neither Be
Idolaters”
If we go
back up to verse 7 of First Corinthians 10 we see the plea to not be idolaters,
and also fornicators in verse 11. Now,
given the passage about blotting out, we would already have to assume that
these people were blotted out for their idolatry and fornication. But Paul
makes it very real for us too. He is
telling CHRISTIANS not to be idolaters or fornicators, and just a little bit
before tells them that idolaters and fornicators will NOT be inheriting the
“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall
not inherit the
For ES to work we would have to have two kinds of idolaters. We’d have to have unrighteous idolaters (sinners from chapter 6) and Christian idolaters (if they became so in chapter 10), so that the unsaved idolaters go to Hell, and the saved idolaters go to Heaven. Pardon me, but did someone besides me see a license for sin here?
I suppose I shall have to prove that Paul was talking to Christians who were saved, so I shall do so.
“Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:” First Corinthians 1:2 KJV
He was writing to those sanctified in Christ Jesus.
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” First Corinthians 1:18
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.” First Corinthians 15:1-2
“And such were some of you: but ye are
washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord
Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” First Corinthians
This last
verse comes right after where Paul says that the unrighteous won’t inherit the
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:” Romans 5:1 KJV
“Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” Romans 5:9 KJV
“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster
to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” Galatians
Christian idolaters indeed.
We need to mourn for the millions who will wind up in Hell thinking they are eternally secure because that’s what was preached to them. There is plenty you can do to go to Hell regardless of where you stand today; I intend to look at some of them next.
Satan must be laughing his head off at the doctrine of today that is designed to play right into his hands. When you’re eternally secure the mark of the beast cannot kill you. When you’re certain God will rapture you out of here, tribulation will make you think God has failed you and must not be for real. Millions and millions are going to go to Hell thinking they were all set, and we need to do something about it.
I am doing something, and for it I will be labeled a fruitcake, and that’s probably one of the nicer terms. Is it worth being accepted by the mainstream churches if you wind up in Hell? I can assure you it’s not. You’re better off being a fruitcake.
